The city Bombay (now know as 'Mumbai') is not only the Gateway to India but also played this vital role to the profession of 'Orthodontics'. The city enjoys the unique honor of having the first exclusive 'Orthodontic' practice as well as having the first PG program in its colleges. In mid - sixties a handful of Orthodontic Professionals felt the need to communicate n learn the art of the profession, formed the B O S G which frequently me to discuss common orthodontic problems. Such an Interactive Club later blossomed into regular meetings and network. This association eventually formed the nucleus to become the national body - 'Indian Orthodontic Society (I O S)'. The founding fathers of Indian Orthodontic Profession were first part of BOSG and later they became the founder members of I O S by default. It is now part of the history, that I O S went on to become a large and formidable organization. However B O S G retained its low apolitical profile with one undiluted and focused objective - to disseminate orthodontic knowledge through collective learning. The unbridled growth of orthodontic professionals demanded a larger role of this organization. Many convenors of B O S G, over the years in spite of many handicaps, held the group together with clinical meetings and communications. Needless to mention, like any other organization of such long standing, there were ups and downs in the checkered existence of B O S G. The high points were the day - long meetings on varied topics - Early Treatment, Mechano - Therapy, Practice Management; to cite a few - which were spectacular successes, drawing a larger number of delegates not only from the membership but also from different parts of the country. On the flip side there were unusually long periods of inactivity.
We, at B O S G once
again reaffirm our commitment to propagate the cause of Orthodontics to
the best of our efforts. |
